Known in the game as "Nicker", Bobby was an integral part of the Famous Five. Indeed, Hibs' trainer, Jimmy McColl described him as the finest inside-forward he has ever seen.

Scored in successive FA Cup finals, 1955 & 1956, the latter a 3-1 victory Vs Birmingham City.

NB :- Bobby's career at Man City can be viewed on the excellent website "MCFCstats.com".

I was a very young player when I first met Bobby and not a first team player. Then he was sold to Man City but when he returned to Hibs it was my pleasure to be able to be on the same field as him
What a nice man. I never ever met anyone who knew
football that didn't admire him and his abilities.

Misc/trivia :- Also played cricket for Saddleworth. He continued to attend matches at both Boundary Park and Maine Road, and was a very popular member of City's Former Players' Association. Today an impressive painting of Johnstone is positioned in the Directors' Guest Lounge at City's stadium.
