A speedy and tricky forward,- McGuigan was a club record £300 signing for Boro from Liverpool in December 1902. However, he made only 1 FL appearance due to injury problems.

Also played for Southport Central, Accrington Stanley, Burslem Port Vale, Bristol City, Barrow & Exeter City.
