Alex McGhee opened the scoring. Debutant Willie Paterson, on for Duncan, earned the second-half penalty and impressed all with his willingness to take defenders on. Bobby Smith, filling in at right-back for the suspended John Brownlie, did a good job keeping Motherwell's tricky winger Peter Marinello quiet.

Referee :- R.H. Davidson, Airdrie.
