Scorers:-Hibs-Milne(7 and 62min.),Combe(21,64,78 and 79min.),Smith(40 and 89min.);Rangers-Venters(pen.,28min.).
'... On they came like the Lord Mayor's show. Milne made it four, and Combe five, six, and seven. And because he is allergic to odd numbers, Smith made it eight.'

This was not a "scratch" Rangers war-time team. The line-up was Dawson; Gray and Shaw; Bolt, Woodburn and Little; McIntosh and Gillick; Smith; Venters and Johnston. Having said that, their cause was not helped when Woodburn was badly injured and moved to outside-right for the second half. He subsequently had to have a cartilage operation.
