Hibs received a boost before the game when both Ally Brazil and Derek Rodier accepted new contracts. As to the game itself, Rangers went into the lead through winger John MacDonald before Gordon Rae equalised on half-time with a quick, low drive. By all accounts Hibs might have won it in the second-half but missed several good chances.
